Featuring a deluxe bar, lounge and fully flexible dining area exclusive to Platinum guests, the Platinum Club marks the first major refurbishment for Great Southern Rail trains since 2008.
The carriage offers a daytime lounge setting with adaptable dining options and an evening banquet layout suitable for larger group gatherings.
“We have experienced a 24 per cent increase in demand for Platinum Service travel over the past two years so we are delighted to be able to enhance our premium offerings with this new social and dining space on The Ghan and Indian Pacific trains,” Great Southern Rail spokesman Steve Kernaghan said.
“It was essential for the Platinum Club to have a distinct connection to place, just as the incredible rail journeys themselves do.
As a result, the Platinum Club reflects a sophisticated Australian design complementing the regional cuisine served on board and the diverse landscapes outside the windows.”
Woods Bagot designer Jordan Schumacher, who partnered with Great Southern Rail on the refurbishment, said the new Platinum Club offered a sense of sophisticated luxury akin to that of a first-class lounge.
“From the outset, the concept was very much driven by allowing the unique Australian Outback to take centre stage,” Ms Schumacher said.
“This connection to place and the emphasis on the land has incubated a sophisticated palette of subtle texture and materials, with crafted brass detailing to reflect the classic age of transcontinental travel. The Platinum Lounge is a premium service offering, an environment of familiar comfort, graciously welcoming the guest to occupy the space as their own.”
The new Platinum Club seats 30 guests for dining and an additional 20 in the lounge area. The space boasts granite tabletops, timber flooring, leather and brass fittings and banquette lounge seating in tones of ash, moss and sepia.
The Platinum Club will be available on all services for The Ghan and Indian Pacific from 1 April, 2016.
Gold Service travellers on board the Indian Pacific and The Ghan will continue to enjoy the dining and social atmosphere of the Queen Adelaide Restaurant and Outback Explorer Lounge carriages.
